10 Habits That Affect Your Looks

Have a look in the mirror. Does what you see in it make you completely happy or is there something you would like to improve?

We tend to blame our age or even lighting and ignore the fact that most often what might affect our looks are our bad habits. Check out the most common things people do that make them less attractive.

1. Leaving Your Makeup On
Do you sometimes go to bed with your makeup on? Then no wonder what you see in the mirror next morning disappoints you. Clean your skin to avoid clogged pores and let your skin breathe at night. No matter how tired you are you can always spend at least two minutes to remove your makeup.

2. Dirty Makeup Applicators
Applicators, brushes and sponges should always be clean. They accumulate makeup products, dead skin cells, dust and need to be regularly washed. If not cleaned properly, they become the real reason why you have rash, infected skin or allergy. Replace old applicators with new ones – that’s the quickest way to prevent bacteria and infection from spreading.

3. Nail Biting
One of the most disgusting habits ever! Not only does nail biting affect your looks, it is also very unhealthy. You touch a great number of various things throughout the day and bacteria that stays on your hands and under your nails later on gets into your mouth. As for the beauty – well, who wants their nails chewed and ragged? Chew gum instead. Ask for professional help, do yoga or coat your nails with a nasty-tasting polish.

4. Licking Your Lips
Licking or chewing your lips make them even drier and chapped. This, in turn, makes you lick and chew them over and over again. That’s a vicious circle than you should break. This problem is easily solved. Purchase lip balm and regularly apply it on your lips. Balm will nourish, moisturize and protect your lips.

5. Ignoring the Sunscreen
Dry skin is prone to wrinkles. No one wants to look older than they really are. It does not matter what ethnic group you belong to. People of any skin type and color are highly recommended to use sunscreen and never go outside without sunscreen on. We all love summer. Tanned skin might look more attractive, but do not forget that the sun is too aggressive and its rays can negatively influence your looks. Let sunscreen be part of your daily routine.

6. Squeezing Pimples
There is not a single person who hasn’t tried to do it at least once in their lifetime. No doubt picking at pimples is another habit you should get rid of if you want to improve your appearance in the long run. Squeezing pimples is the worst thing you can do to your skin. Popping them results in scars and infection. The best way to stop bacteria from spreading is to wash your face properly on a daily basis. Use antibacterial lotion, special soap and cream. Do not wear makeup for some time and let your skin heal first.

7. Combing/Brushing Wet Hair
Wet hair should not be combed or brushed when right after shower. Let them dry first. If you are in a hurry and have no time to wait for your hair to dry on its own, use a dryer. Set it so that the temperature of the air coming out of the dryer would not be too high. Warm or cold air is preferred. Attach a special brush to the dryer and gently brush your hair when it is damp.

8. Wearing Tight Braids and Ponytails
Learn a new term - traction alopecia. This condition can be described as hair loss due to your hair being intentionally and regularly pulled out of your scalp. In the course of time the roots and follicles of your hair become weak and you notice that you hair is no longer as thick as it used to be. This problem occurs to women who like wearing braids and tight ponytails. In some cases, hair loss is permanent. In order to avoid possible problems, give your hair a rest.

9. Tweezing Ingrown Hairs
If you have ingrown hair you know how many problems it may cause. It looks unattractive, it is itchy, and very uncomfortable. Yet picking the ingrown hair with a needle or tweezers while trying to remove it from under your skin will cause even more severe problems in the future – infection, bruises, and scars. What you should do is to exfoliate the skin to remove the dead skin cells. Once the ingrown hair emerges pluck it.

10. Extreme Weight Loss
Crash dieting has a negative influence on your appearance. Fat is not the only thing you lose. You also lose muscles. Moreover, your metabolism slows down, your body lacks minerals and vitamins, your skin, nails, and hair suffer. Do not starve! Make your menu healthy, include fruit and vegetables, lean protein and exclude junk food and sugary drinks. Do sports – alternate cardio with weight training. Cardio will burn fat while weight training will build built muscle. The result: healthy and toned up body.
