Suspected monkeypox outbreak now in 7 Nigerian states

LAGOS, Nigeria Nigeria’s center for disease control said Monday that 31 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported in at least seven states, triggering immediate activation of a national emergency response. The center had last Thursday confirmed the outbreak of the disease in the oil-rich southern Bayelsa state where 12 cases were confirmed and dozens of people already quarantined. “Following the notification of a suspected monkeypox outbreak [...] in Bayelsa State, other suspected cases have been reported from six more states, bringing the total number of suspected cases so far to 31 across seven States - Bayelsa, Rivers, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun and Cross River States,” the center said in a statement on Monday night. “Samples have been collected from each suspected case for laboratory confirmation. Osinbajo Probe Panel Submits Report With Recommendations To Buhari

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo panel set up to probe allegations of corruption against the suspended secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the NIA, Ayo Oke, has submitted its reports to President Muhammadu Buhari. Osinbajo who addressed State House Correspondents after the closed door event says that the President would act on the detailed recommendations in the interest of the Nigerian people. Buhari Calls Off FEC Meeting, To Receive Report On Babachir, NIA DG

The weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will not hold Wednesday,  President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina reveals. Mr. Adesina, in a statement, said Mr. Buhari will however receive the report of the investigation committee into the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke. The committee is headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and it will submit its report to the president in his office at noon,  Mr. Adesina says. Mr. Buhari returned to Nigeria on Saturday after spending 103 days in London for medical treatment.
