Vice President Yemi Osinbajo panel set up to probe allegations of corruption against the suspended

secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the NIA,

Ayo Oke, has submitted its reports to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Osinbajo who addressed State House Correspondents after the closed door event says that the

President would act on the detailed recommendations in the interest of the Nigerian people.

Although he refused to disclose some of the recommendations made by the committee as it would be

preempting Buhari, he notes that Buhari would study the report and take his own decisions.

“This is a report which contains recommendations to the President.

“It is a fact finding committee as you know and what our terms of reference were, were to find out

based on the facts that we had available to us and based on interview of witnesses what transpired in

both cases that were before us.

“The one involving the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the one involving the D-G

NIA, we have now concluded that and we have submitted a full report with recommendations to Mr

President.‘’
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo briefing the State House Correspondent after the presentation of probe panel report on the Suspended SGF and DG NIA at the State House in Abuja.

Prompted to give insight into the recommendations Osinbajo says “of course I cannot give you any

kind of details because the President has to look at it, has to study the report and then make his own

decisions based on that report.

“Well I think that as you can imagine that we are always fair minded and the whole approach is to

ensure that justice is done in all cases.

“It is in the interest of the government and also in the interest of the nation that things are done

properly, that there is due process in anyway.

“That’s is the proper thing to do and you can be sure that we will do the right thing.’’

Asked further to disclose the recommendations he remarked again “Oh I cannot tell the

recommendations.

”How can I? This is a document which we have just presented to Mr President.

“He is the one who will read the recommendations, read the facts in the recommendations and then

make a judgment.

”But I cannot. We cannot do that. That will be preemptive of him.

Osinbajo states that Buhari thanked the committee for a job well done adding that those who wished

to get the details had to really wait.

Other members of the panel are National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, and Minister of

Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The committee was set up on April 19 to investigate allegations of financial misdeeds involving

Lawal in contracts awarded for IDPs camps in Borno.

Ayo Oke became a subject of probe after the EFCC found $43million in an apartment in Lagos.
